About
Sound judgment.
Sound coffee.
Sound Coffee Roasting is a small roasting operation on the south end of Whidbey Island, Washington. We roast light because that's where the interesting flavors are. Darker roasts taste like roast. Lighter roasts taste like coffee.
Every week, we open a small batch of one coffee. You order in, we roast it, and you pick it up on the island. The beans are usually in your hands within a day of roasting.

What we believe
Light is right
We roast at City to City+ levels, just past first crack. At that level you can actually taste the origin: where the coffee was grown, how it was processed, what makes it different from the next one.
Small by design
We roast 1–2 pounds at a time on an Aillio Bullet and cup every batch. Small runs mean we catch problems before they end up in your bag.
Transparency first
Our beans come with all the usual details: origin, varietal, process, harvest, and cupping score. You can even see the technical roasting graphs from each batch.

Whidbey Island, WA
Rooted in the Sound.
Named for the Puget Sound (and maybe a little for sound judgment). We're a small operation, on a small island, with big dreams.
Pickup is local, on the south end of the island. Each batch lists the pickup spot and time.
